Unrealistic goals

Sometimes I really do think that somewhere along the way, I developed a super screwed up body image. Was it growing up in southern California? Playing with Barbies? Working at a certain place? Reading fashion, teen, and pop magazines? I don't know.

My poor trainer. He asked me what my goals were. I told him that if he could make me look like these women (Nicole from Pussycat dolls, Leanne Tweeden, Jessica Biel, and/or Beyonce), I'd be happy. He laughed. He laughed! Ok so maybe I was being unrealistic. But I still think they look phenomenal. Gotta have something to shoot for, I guess.

They do look amazing, but remember it's their job to look amazing!

I also have been concerned I have pointless goals.

My BMI is in the low end of "normal" range for my age, and my goal was pretty much the very bottom of the normal range. I decided I should be satisfied being in shape but of a "normal" BMI.

It's hard.

I don't know who Leanne Tweeden is.

You know that all pictures in magazines are Photoshopped, right?

And everybody -- EVERYBODY -- in the industry has had plastic surgery.

One of my fave sites is Good Plastic Surgery. Go read it. It will provide you hours of fun and will open your eyes.

1. I think you look great.

2. Before I moved to SoCal I was 30 pounds lighter and in a good place wrt body image. Within a month or two of moving here though I was a mess in my head; so many people down here seem so perfect (see WM's point about surgery). I look back on pictures from then and wonder why the hell I was so hard on myself.

3. Again, I think you look great!

Strive to be a first rate version of yourself, healthy and strong, not a second rate version of someone who does not look like that in real life, anyways.

Ladies, thanks for the perspective. It's always hard to start a new workout and diet program. I always start it out being very hard on myself.

Liz - my body fat % is 31.4. I think it's off.

WM - thanks for the site, I hope my computer can manage it. I don't know who Leanne is besides some model. And I guessed that most pics are photoshopped, which is why I really appreciated Tyra and Kim's cellulite and big thigh photos. Even when they bashed Jessica Simpson for being heavy, I thought her figure looked amazing. Stupid media.

AM - thanks. I totally feel you on how it all gets to your head. Mindfuck, I swear.

Ang - you're so right, and I know that. It's just hard to always remember it.

I was going to say the same thing as WM - all photos are touched up! ;(

here's a better suggestion - go through your closet and take an item of clothing that no longer fits. make that your goal. ;)

You look great D. All those celebs are poked and prodded and photoshopped and spanxed out. I'm all about just being a healthier version of YOU, not some celeb that is manufactured.

I wish I have your body, D.
