I've been in major need of a makeover...

and today I got it! Thanks to MBOC who was my partner in crime and the best personal shopper ever, I finally bought some things that were long overdue.

Make Up Forever HD Foundation: "Live your life in high definition. With Make Up For Ever HD Foundation ($40), you'll never have to cringe under florescents, hide from cameras, or get it on in the dark. This oil-free foundation is designed to create a soft-focus effect, hiding every imperfection in every type of environment."

NARS blush in Orgasm

MAC Viva Glam lipstick/liner/gloss: "Established in 1994 by M·A·C Cosmetics, the M·A·C AIDS Fund supports men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS globally. Introducing its first VIVA GLAM lipstick that same year, M·A·C decided that every cent of the selling price of the VIVA GLAM lipsticks would go to the M·A·C AIDS Fund. With a total of six shades of Viva Glam lipstick and two shades of Viva Glam lipglass now sold worldwide, and through the annual Kids Helping Kids Card Program, M·A·C Cosmetics has provided over $130 million (US) to date for the M·A·C AIDS Fund. The M·A·C AIDS Fund is the heart and soul of the company – with its employees giving their time, energy and talent to help those affected by HIV/AIDS worldwide."

And new clothes from my new favorite store!

And the best ending ever:

I could do this every weekend....

A new low

Iz hit it.

I found a new thing - Redbox dvd rentals. $1 a night. Not the best selection but when you don't have cable and your laptop can't handle online media too well, there isn't much left to choose from.

I rented Catch and Release last night, starring Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant. Pretty depressing. Nontheless, I liked it, guess why?

I'm going to see if I can score Bride Wars and Milk tonight. We'll see. Ok, off to the gym to try to get skinny and then off to the mall to see if I can find something that will make me feel pretty.

C-ya.

Vacation in Maui

Why not somewhere more exotic or luxurious? Well, I don't have a passport - still waiting.

And before you toast to me for finally going on vacation, now is probably a good time to say I'm not going on one, I'm just dreaming of it.

To be able to wake up to coffee, oranges, and PBJ and eat it on my balcony to see this:

Then take a good book and lay on the sand to stare at this:

Maybe go swimming in the ocean like this:

And when I am sleepy, to fall asleep at sunset like this:

Bikram Yoga - holey crap

(for the record, I do know that it's probably "holy crap" but I just can't bring myself to spell that out together).

I also want to blog about my fantastic Friday night but I didn't have a camera and you'll later see why it wouldn't be the same to post about it without pictures. I'm being a mooch and waiting for pictures from my comrades that I was with.

Today I tried Bikram Yoga for the first time. Luckily, I went with Claire and Yahpee. For those of you that don't know what Bikram Yoga is, it's HOT YOGA. Yoga for NINETY minutes in a hot room (105 degrees or more).

I sweat less than I thought I would, actually. Maybe this is because I was taking it easy since it was so hot in there and I was afraid of passing out.

Location - new place in Irvine. Very nice and spa like. They even had free sponge cake for students! The staff was great and the bathrooms were very clean. Towel service and mats if you needed them. $29 for unlimited classes for 2 weeks for you and a friend. Score!

Some observations:
- I felt like it was technically an easier class than the other yoga classes I've had at the gym. No downward dog and not many of the regular sun salutations or plank moves.
- It was damn hot. Humid is more like it.
- I wanted to give up multiple times during the class. Instead I just laid there like a quitter.
- You CAN'T LEAVE THE ROOM for the entire NINETY MINUTES! It was unbearable at certain points but I'm glad I stayed for the full experience.
- I slept for 3.5 hours when I got home and woke up parched and drained.
- Eating at The Counter afterwards with Claire, Yahpee, and Roof was so nice. I felt so healthy that I went bunless!

Will I do it again?
Yes. =)
Tomorrow, in fact. And I'm going to try to go 25 times between now and the end of April. I want to see what the hype is about.

Here is a very informative and interesting youtube video that is pretty accurate on what the class was like. Intense.

Happiest Place on Earth?

Orange County - duh! Where else can you live that you can say "gee, I think I'll go to Disneyland tonight"?

It's been a great weekend. Mr10yt was out of town again so I had to keep busy. And busy I kept!

Aside from the regular cleaning, taxes, and errands, I got to hang out with my friend A. We've made a pact to hit the gym 2x a weekend, which we did. We also had a pleasant lunch at home and she nested while I painted 1.25 walls in my guestroom. :-/

A invited me to go House of Blues for dinner followed by DISNEYLAND where she gets free admission!!! I've never been to HOB and have also never been to the Happiest Place on Earth when there were no lines for Space Mountain (I'm hoarse now), Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and Small World. *sigh* Thank you A for taking us there!

All of this, combined with Cheetos and orange soda, makes for an excellent weekend in my book.

Dog, meet Pony.

I really like my job. For the most part, I really enjoy my coworkers, and that includes the boss. I consider myself fortunate in this way. I love the clients and the relationship I develop with a number of them. It's touching to get invited to personal parties they have and to receive new client referrals from them, it's the highest compliment to our work.

Along with my job comes having to dog and pony every now and then. Downside is that, well, it's a dog and pony show and it can be tiring knowing that everything you say and do, and even how you look, is being scrutinized. Upside are the great free meals I get to have! 4 dog and pony shows in a week, starting tomorrow. Breaks up the monotony of Banquet and Lean Cuisine meals for lunch, that's for sure.

Balboa Bay Club - Newport Beach, CA
I've only had breakfast here so I'm excited to see the lunch menu.

Pacific Club - Newport Beach, CA.
I've had lunch and dinner here, and it's a popular venue for evening receptions in my field. The food has always been extremely tasty.

Big Canyon Country Club - Newport Beach, CA.
Been here twice. The staff was very polite and attentive.

Finally - my favorite of the four: Pleasant Peasant - Newport Beach, CA.
It's a country bistro with French flair. I love their gazpacho and the salmon with cream sauce. I think I'll try something different tomorrow and order the French onion soup and Wellington.

I get to feel fancy! Wish me luck that I don't forget my manners during my lunch escapades!

I'm kind of proud of this, so I'll share: 2 of our 4 hosts have asked that I do a speaking segment during the talk that my boss gives to the hosts' important clients (on estate taxes and minimizing exposure and liability, etc.). I've done this before but not in front of crowds this big. My 2 segments will be on Qualified Personal Residence Trusts and Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts. Wooot! Party time on Opposite Day!

My simple life

It's been a simple week for me. Mr10yt was out of town for work again. It gets lonely, but thank goodness I have my two dogs, Sophie and Caleb, to keep me company. The good thing about Mr10yt being out of town is that my best friend lets me dogsit her dogs so that I have extra protection since Soph and Caleb are wimps. Max and Mia are super good guard dogs. They come over when Mr10yt is gone and stay with me until he gets back.

OC Nesties had a gtg on Sunday, January 24th - potluck and books! Friends, eats, and reads are one of my favorite combinations. WeezerMonkey did a great recap here with a lot of photos! Too bad my camera isn't as nice as hers otherwise I would have posted my pics too.
Everyone was such a good houseguest and it was so nice to see everyone again. I love my girls.
Lowlight of the party - some of our nesties were sorely missed. Highlight of the party - no one got shanked.

To keep myself busy when Mr10yt is out of town, I've been...cleaning! I've made it a point to declutter and get organized for 2009. That is my goal this year - to get my house and head in order. I'm on my way!

Closet before:

And closet after (with about 75% less stuff - I swear I have no clothes anymore):

Next projects:
- paint guestroom
- clean out guestroom closet

Thanks for reading!

When the cat is away, the mice do paint

And so it begins. Mr.10yt is out of town again and I found myself home from brunch with nothing to do. I decided to get a can of paint and finally do the walls in the powder room. The faux-textured blue paint in there has been an eyesore to me for almost 3 years. Good riddance!
After 2 hours or so of painting, I'm done!

Before:

And after. Still need to finish the little parts on the cabinet and find a picture to put above the throne. Home Depot's Behr paint in Benjamin Moore's color Pismo Dunes. Apparently HD has the formula for this color and it was a perfect match. I don't care what people say, Behr is A-OK with me. I used 1 coat and it covered fine and was easy to apply.

This machine is out of order

I always tell myself I'll post at least once per month. FAIL! November came and went. And I am so multiple-personalitied that it takes a lot for me to remember what is going on in my life long enough to write about it, but I'll try.

- Election - I have hope. I have some hope that sooner rather than later, the hearts of the American people and the intelligent and seemingly good and honest nature of our President Elect will bring this country to a happy place again. I have to say that the older I get, the more my views change, and I am proud to say that I have friends that are smart and devoted enough to certain issues that have shown me the light where my once narrow-minded political views kept me ignorant. I know that there is still a lot left to be done, but I have faith that in time, what is right will prevail.

- Knitting. Another "hobby" that came and went. Stupid casting off concept ruined it for me. It was that or the ~$150 or so that this short-lived hobby cost me.

- Crocheting. See above.

- Clementine. Poor Clementine. She sits in the garage crying for companionship with a pricetag that mocks me every time I pass her. Whatever.

- Running. I lost steam after the Long Beach race and never rallied my mojo back up. Soon enough. After all, I signed up for a February race. I'll get that surfboard medal if it kills me!

- Exercise. What? Who cares! I have a bad attitude about exercise right now. At least I walk at lunch 3-4x a week. Give me a straw hat and hot pink Keds and I've fast forwarded my life by 30 years. Oh well.

- Budgeting. My latest obsession. Stupid obsession. I've been eating pork rib/corn/mashed potato Banquet meals more than I care to admit, but for $.89, it fits nicely into my budget. What I have realized though is that I spend entirely too much on eating out at places that are not even that great at all. As a penalty, I've budgeted myself to eating out at lunch 1x max per week for the month of December. I am doing great so far. Granted, I'm only 4 days in, but it's the thought that counts. Lesson: alcohol in water bottle smuggled into restaurants and movie theaters Is.Your.Best.Friend.

- Business. I'm a bidness woman! I opened up my shitty little half.com bookstore that has generated $70ish dollars in income! I have also signed up to do a focus group that will give me $150 extra for the holidays. Wahoo.

- Reading. Jen Lancaster. Love. Thousand Splendid Suns. Oh yeah. Marley and Me. TBD but love it so far.

- Twilight. The long awaited movie premiere (sp?) didn't disappoint! I don't care what people say, seeing Rob Pattinson on the big screen is more than I could have asked for in the movie. Love.

- Thanksgiving. I love my family. I was having mixed emotions this year, but I have to remember to be grateful for my blessings right now. My health and the love and health of my family, foremost, the love of my friends, and to be gainfully employed doing a job that I love. I should not ask for more. Yet I do. But I shouldn't. I love my life for what it is. And for what it isn't, I just won't dwell on that because it's just not worth it.

Nicotine withdrawals blow. Blow.So.Hard.

Bad news is - side effects from quitting smoking can be really hard. Like right now. I'm sitting here with my 3rd mojito (big no-no) and I want to ride my friggin bike to the liquor store to buy a pack of smokes. What's stopping me is that, quite frankly, I think I'd eat dirt real bad because it's late and because I'm not fit to drive or ride right now.

Good news is - I have been quit for 1 Week, 2 Days, 12 hours, 46 minutes and 19 seconds (9 days). I have saved $33.35 by not smoking 133 cigarettes. I have saved 11 hours and 5 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 10/5/2008 11:30 AM....(I love this widget I downloaded that calculates all this information for me whenever I type ctrl+F12)

So yes, for the 3rd or 4th time in my life, I am trying to quit smoking. My last attempt lasted about 3 weeks, and the one before that lasted about 6 months(ish). I know now that one smoke leads to more, and that I can't lie to myself that just one smoke will end at that one smoke.

I make myself sick right now. Seriously, I want to go to the store to buy a pack. I'll report bac in the morning and let you know if I made it through the night.

**PS - I didn't even lead into this post, but yes, this is 10yt, a "runner". What a joke. And yes, I've smoked all through my running training. Yeah, I seriously disgust myself right now. Please wish me luck on this, I need it. I know what sets me off from past experience, I just pray that this time I can withstand the temptations that have sent me back to smoking before. Blegh. Bah!!! I hate this. I feel like an addict. But then again, I guess I am, or, I was. Same thing.

I need to change my name...

...to 12yearstogether because today, September 21, 2008, it has officially been 12 years with Mr10yt. Yay! When you get marriaged does it mean that you start ignoring your old anniversary? Maybe, but this day is special because it's also Mommy and Daddy10yt's 35th Wedding Anniversary today! Wahooo!

Anyhow, it's been a...wild and interesting ride these past 12 years, and I wouldn't have done anything differently because if I had, we might not be where we are today. That makes everything worth it.

A few pictures I'll share of us over the years.

1996: Mark was in the USMC and I was working at Charlotte Russe. Silly kids.

1999: We were big into working out together this year. We each thought we were hotter than the other. Heh.

2001: We had the flu together. Even when I was sick, back then I did my eyebrows and put on makeup to take picture. Moted.

2003: Starting to grow up right around here. Mark was working his first real "career" job and I was about to graduate and get my very own career as well.

2004: Feeling like grown ups now, dressing like it too.

2005: Don't stop believin...

2006: He finally gave in.

2007: Settled. Satisfied. Happy.

2008: Best it's ever been, at least so far!

Thanks for reading. =)

Baby???? What the fffffff.....

Why did I do this? I went to www.makemebabies.com from a link that my girlfriend found. Apparently you can fuse you and your partner's pictures together to see what your hypothetical baby would look like. Results were...wow.

Here are the results. Boy or girl? Who knows. I can't tell. No further commentary necessary for these:

The Joy of Soy...

I bought Yves brand "Meatless Ground" from Trader Joe's to see how it would taste as a ground beef substitute for my spaghetti. Not bad but not totally great. It definitely doesn't have that "beefy meaty" taste I used to love and that I, quite honestly, miss. The good thing is that since it's made from soy, it has 0 cholesterol.

It LOOKS like ground beef at least.

I planned on making it for my dinner tonight and was pretty excited until I came home from the gym only to walk into a house that smelled like bbq chicken wings. It really hurt my feelings because I just love wings. So I was pretty bitter as I cooked my spaghetti.

Oh well. The spaghetti (pic is not mine) was pretty good and I'd make it again for one of those quick go-to meals. The sauce is Ragu because I'm lazy and classy like that. Shut it.

If you aren't a foodie or aren't very picky about food, check it out!

I'm ready to ride! New stuff yay!

Soooo....I said goodbye to Penny after a spill that scared the beegeezus out of me. She was too fast and I am too clumsy and inexperienced to handle a bike that fancy. I was fortunate enough that the LBS (local bike shop) where I got Penny took her back even though this was outside of their policy. I HIGHLY recommend checking out Two Wheels One Planet in Lake Forest. Jeff was really nice and spent a lot of time fitting me for the right bike.

I now introduce Clementine, in technical terms she's a Trek 7.5 fx WSD. She is halfway between a true hybrid and a roadbike in weight so thankfully a tad slower and heavier but the carbon fork makes for a smooth ride. She has the flat handlebars that give me the security I've been wanting. I love her already!

I also ordered a bike pannier so I can ride to the grocery store every now and then and pick up a few things without having to use my car. Team Green!

So that I don't hit runners and people know when I'm coming from behind, I got a turtle squeaky horn.

And since it will get cold shortly, I got cycling leg warmers.

I'm ready to ride!

Oh PS Mom don't worry, I got a helmet and also my gloves like you said so my hands don't freckle from the sun!

Time to update!

Hi Lovers!

Quick updates on me:

Summer was good and filled with seeing family and friends, catching up, working at my job which I'm really loving since I got there last November and keeping up with my health/fitness.

Mark and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary! Whew!

I gave up meat (beef, chicken, pork, turkey, lamb, veal), milk, and cheese (milk and cheese products are harder to cut out but I'm trying). Still eating fish though. I thought I'd see if I felt better physically and to be honest, I watched a PETA video "Meet Your Meat" and read the book Skinny Bitch and I felt compelled to at least try it. To top it off, the doctors have told my dad that if he wants to live past 60 (he's 55), he better watch his blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as his family history for late-onset diabetes and that a good step would be to cut out alcohol and fatty meats. Hmmm...me thinks that if my dad has to watch it then maybe I should too. Is it permanent? I don't know, but it's been a month and I don't miss it too much but the thought of no more prime rib or buffalo wings hurts my heart something awful.

Got a bike, named her Penny (short for Penelope) and boy is my girl FAST! I am joining Orange County Wheelmen, but unfortunately they've told me I need to be able to ride for at least 15 miles at a 12mph speed before I can ride with them. Soon enough!:

I officially start my swimming lessons on September 16th with the YMCA. With the help of Yahpee (Aline), I hope to be able to swim 1/2 a mile in open water by around March 2009. Considering that I can only doggie-paddle about 10 yards at a time with the comfort of the pool edge within my reach, this is a big deal for me. This is me currently:

August 31, 2008 Disney Half Marathon - CHECK! Aline, Kim, Kim's MOH Michelle, Joy, Claire, Andrea and Me did the race together. I had my best time ever! 2:06 and change wahooo! After waking up at an unGodly hour of 3am and being at Claire's house by 340ish so that MVP Tim could take us there, we set off. It was pretty great, except for the muggy heat. The cool ass medal and post-race Soup Plantation sure as hell made up for it though.

RIGHT before the gun went off...pretty exciting

I can officially say I've ran a race through the Magic Kingdom (Castle? Whatever). My everlasting pacing partner Andrea and Me (still giddy at mile 2-ish):

Hurting hurting hurting....I think this is around mile 10ish:

Disneyland was such a rush that guess what I've signed up for for October 12, 2008? Yes, a race that is 100% along the shoreline. How can you beat that?

Twilight. Edward Cullen. Yummehhhh.... No further explanation needed to fans and non-fans alike. November 12th can't come soon enough darling.

Cheefy Beefy Romanian Melts, with a can of Pepsi. I'm STILL crying. Oh hell.

That's about it.

Some pictures of my Alaska trip

A week ago we went to Anchorage for a short vacation. That wouldn't be my first choice of where to go but last year we promised my cousin that we'd go for his promotion ceremony and celebration for the Air Force.

It didn't get dark until about 130am and then the sun rose at 430am - crazy! I got a chance to do a little sightseeing downtown and took a day cruise on Prince William Sound to see the glaciers. It was really pretty, and although I'm glad I visited, I can't say I'd go back. I got bored.

Congrats Lt. Col. G!

My "shopping experience in Anchorage":

Day cruise on Prince William Sound:

I get motion sickness, it's so sad. So I had a few margaritas made with glacier ice, so after a while I got more comfortable.

I always make time for yoga!

I'm king of the worrrrrld!

Team Green strikes again!

I have to say that carpooling is phenomenal. On 5/27 gas was 4.19 a gallon, today on 6/2 it's 4.31 a gallon. Thank goodness for Team Green! For those of you that don't know, Sarah (aka mboc) and I have been making a concerted effort to carpool to and from work. It's been great so far and I've cut my commute time in less than half AND am conserving gas. She is surprisingly chipper in the morning too!

Today I got a special surprise and the other half of Team Green granted me HC+L status with this birthday present! Thanks mboc!! I now have a reason to get a pedi. I <3 onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PtUmomi9Ux4/SETeckuF7BI/AAAAAAAAAlo/L2HFMGKBBEo/s1600-h/DSC_0002.JPG">

It was such a great day that I had to end it with a bang - 4 miles in 43:44 on the treadmill. Holler! Toldja I'd start training for the Disney halfie hardcore-style once I got back from Eskimo land.

San Diego Rock and Roll MARATHON!

No, I didn't do it, but Yahpee and I went to go cheer on my bestie Jamie! It was hot, so it's a good thing the race started at 630am. Yahpee and I were out the door at 7:07am. zzzzzzz.....After getting in from Anchorage last night after 1am, I was pooped like a muther but SO GLAD I was able to make it, largely due to Yahpee who organized the planning to get us down there.

Go Jamie and congrats on another great season with Team in Training! She has raised thousands of dollars (I believe over $5k) on her OWN for the cause of Leukemia and Lymphoma. So.Proud.of.Her.

The expo was cool - look what we found! This one goes out to Ashley!
*Squealing*

Yahpee and I were STARVOESHA after soooo....we made it to El Cajon Blvd. in North Park (eeks) for one of the best things about San Diego....

Carne Asada Fries: Before and After. Oy.

Mama's hooome!!

I missed blogging and missed reading everyone's blogs even more while I've been away! Thanks for the birthday wishes (5/31 was my 31st birthday - "Golden Birthday" per Cat) too.

In quick summary:
- went to Anchorage for my cousin's promotion celebration to Lt. Colonel in the US Air Force. This is a big deal and I am so proud of him. Got some shopping, photography (hee hee), cruising, and sightseeing done. Found out that telling people you're looking for "eskimos" isn't very politically correct.
- went to San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon today with Aline to watch my bestie Jamie run it and just got back. Good times and yummmmmmer food!
- I'm pooped like a muther.

Pictures to follow, but here are some pictures for now:

Great Memorial Day! Dinner with the homies and registered for Disney Half Marathon =)

Memorial Day ended nicely with Kim and Corey hosting dinner for me, the mister, Yahpee & Mr.Yahpee at their house. Kim has become such a good cook, I have to give credit where credit is due. Steaks and veggies, and CAKE! I even got birthday candles! I love my friends, I'm so grateful.

Kim is always cheesing for the camera:

Kim, me and Aline (more commonly known as Yahpee):

Our awesome hosts. Going to their place feels like being at home - I love that they moved 5 minutes away!

Aline and Matt are so cute and always fun company, without fail:

The Mister and I:

Sometimes I get sad that I can't be with my family on holidays, but times like tonight help me remember that I DO have family here in OC. Only difference is, we're just not blood related, and that's just a minor technicality. =)

UPDATE ON DISNEY HALF MARATHON ("Halfie")

All that yappin and no action from me for the past few weeks regarding the Disney Half Marathon. But today I'm $107 poorer and one step closer to another road race - I am officially REGISTERED!
I linked my training calendar at the top of my blog if you need any guidance on training for it if you're doing the race too.

Finally a reason to get out of my fitness slump!

Day 14 of GET FIT PLAN - 20 minutes biking and 10 measly minutes of lower body resistance training. 186 calories burned. Weight = +3 pounds since Day 1. Cut me!

Here's to another road race! Kim is registered and Claire and Aline and Joy are in for it as well. Still waiting on word from Andrea/USCgirl and Cat but hopefully they'll bite. Jessica can't do it this time, it won't be the same without her but we'll always have our past races to remember.

Look at the goodies we get if we finish the race, of course 2008's would be modified (squealing):

Mickey and Minnie were always a little creepy looking to me, but hopefully they'll be there cheering the runners on:

The START line of any race is so exciting - adrenaline rush!

Summer is looking goooood! (knock on wood)

So I have some fun things planned for June! Yay!
June 6th weekend - W Hotel in San Diego with the Mister and some friends! Pool day on June 7th (help me God) and then the Padres v. Mets at night. Maybe we'll go out after the game, which again means having to be body-ready. I hate this pressure.

June 20th weekend - Lake Havasu! Wooooooo!! I've never been to the river. Again, help me God bc this involves swimwear, I would think.

June 28th weekend - Possible Shutterbugs-Love-To-Eat weekend in Long Beach - weeeee!
So, more reason for me to get serious about the GET FIT PLAN.

Day 10 - 401 calories burned, 40 min on treadmil and 5 straight minutes of walking lunges. My ass and thighs are en fuego.

1 week into GET FIT PLAN - not so great results

How annoying. I'm on Day 9 of my GET FIT PLAN and I've GAINED a pound. Oh well. For this reason, I think I need something to really motivate me to be disciplined and train right.

So far:
Day 8 - break
Day 9 - 35 min of cardio, 266 calories burned.

Again - SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING! I WILL kill the muffin-top!

So I'll sign up for this half marathon (13.1 miles) for August 30, 2008. That gives me 3 full months. Doesn't this picture MAKE you want to do it too?! Join me!

I also did a few reviews on YELP! Thanks to Jessica and Claire for introducing me to the goodness of this site. It's so fun! If you want to see my reviews, my site is http://dianeh.yelp.com

Quick edit: the Mister made a fabbo dinner of red snapper made Brazilian style (not sure what that means but it involved coconut milk, some herbs and spices, and tomatoes, onion, and garlic) on white rice. So. F'ing. Good.

This is SO COOL!

Weekend recap in photos

It's only Sunday afternoon but it's been a packed weekend for me despite the heat. I recapped my exercise and diet so far this weekend in the post below, so here is what I've done for the rest of the weekend. It was nice to be able to spend time with the Mister, and we even got to see some good friends and take in some sightseeing and art!

I took a lot of pictures and realized that I'll never be a Boutwell, Lerit, or Marie (I like their photographs) but it's still a fun hobby.

SATURDAY

Started the day in Chinatown for acupuncture. If you're ever up for it, we recommend "Acupuncture East Meets West" on 709 S. Hill N. Hill St. in Chinatown - $40 gets you acupuncture with an "electrotherapy twist" - that's a bargain! It's just 2.5 blocks from Empress Pavillion where we caught the tail end of dim sum (thanks to Wemo for the rec!). We even took in a martial arts exhibition that was going on.

We headed over to Santa Monica afterwards - one of me and M's favorite places in California. It was fun playing tourist. These are our old friends G and L from NYC...

SUNDAY

The Mister and I went to a local art festival - "Fun With Chalk". It was hot out but worth it, there were some fantastic chalk drawings. These are some of my favorite ones.

The Bather...she looks like she's, uh, doing something special in that tub:

I thought this was simply pretty:

I enjoyed the way the artist of this drawing loved talking about his work:

A self-portrait of Freud's grandson:

Happy Indian family - so cute!:

How do you say, psychadelic?

Thanks for visiting!

Training/Dieting/Exercise Progress Report

I haven't been blogging but I'm still on my Get Fit Plan and still planning to do a half marathon in August 2008 (just 3.5 months away)!

Exercise report:
Food intake has been ok, nothing too horrendous with the exception of two margaritas on both Day 5 and Day 7.
Day 5- BREAK, Chili's happy hour with Jess, Claire, MBOC and Cat
Day 6 - Lift weights and run 1.5 miles = 37min, 237 cals burned
Day 7 - Ran for 1:05 and burned 567 cals! It had to be at least 4 miles.

Saturday early morning run with Claire - we ran on the boardwalk in Huntington Beach - what a way to appreciate the beautiful (but HOT!) weather and the fact that we live in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

This is where Claire and I ran:

This is me and Claire's running feet. I'd like to think I'm the slimmer one on the right:

Sooooo - I'll continue to try to cook decently healthy meals, do training runs, and lift weights.
A favorite dish I made this week with grilled chicken, orzo, black beans, corn and red bell peppers, onions, and fire roasted salsa. Served with some rice - thank you Trader Joe's! I loved it but Mr10yt thought it was just ok. :-/

10 things that made me happy today

10 things that made me happy today:
  1. Getting in at 925am (a tad late) and seeing the boss come in 5 minutes after me.
  2. A thank you card from a client with a box of sees candy (I put the candy in the office and I did NOT have a SINGLE piece!)
  3. Talking to my old boss and getting some inside information on what the Senate Finance Committee will be doing with the current estate tax personal exemption.
  4. Finishing a project that will save a very kind client an estimated 3.5mil in cash (no kidding).
  5. Getting home in record time due to light ass traffic and getting to the gym to meet a friend.
  6. Having a great workout - 30min of running/jogging and 30min of weights where my muscles were actually shaking. 455 calories total burned - DAY 4 of my GET FIT PLAN - SUCCESS!
  7. Finding $37 in a gym jacket that I've had buried in my car.
  8. Leftover gnocchi for dinner that tasted better than it did when I first made it.
  9. Mark taking the initiative to make plans for us on Saturday (whoa)
  10. Thoughts of Chili's happy hour after work tomorrow - muthereffingholler!

Who else is on a diet/"Get Fit" plan?

It's day 3 of my Get Fit plan amd I'm sore and hungrier than usual. But I did jog with the dogs for 31 minutes and burned 251 calories. Something is better than nothing, right?

If I can stay consistent until May 26, which would be 2 weeks, I know I'm on track to getting back into good shape. If you're in the same boat as far as diet and exercise, let's hear it! It's always nice to know others are doing the same thing.

I'm considering doing the Ladera Ranch 10k on 4th of July and/or the Disneyland Half Marathon on August 30th. Email me at 10yearstogether@gmail.com if you're interested in joining me.

My motto for now is "Something is better than nothing" when it comes to exercise.

Quick post re private blog

Hi All,

For those of you that had access to my private blog and those that have emailed me to get access, please don't feel bad. It's nothing personal and I hope I didn't make anyone feel like I "dis-invited" them, I took it down for now and sort things out in my head before publishing anything. I think so many of you are wonderful for things you've written to me, it means so much.

xoxoxoxo

(gotta get back to work!)

Get Fit Plan Day 2 - Success!

Today was another good exercise day! I did 3 miles in 35 minutes and stretched for a total of 10 minutes. Slow and steady wins the race, so for a week I will only do cardio and perhaps abs and maybe pushups if I'm feeling ambitious.

Calories burned - 324; weight - 144.

I also made dinner 2 nights in a row as part of my plan to avoid eating out or eating fast food and to bring my lunch consisting of leftovers. Lunch was for business, but I stuck to eating just half of my rich caesar salad and just a few bites of my asparagus and mushroom risotto (both were not that good at all).

Water intake? Check!
No coffee? Check!
Eat smaller portions and chew slowly? Check!

No relevant pics but here is one of Sophie and Caleb. They truly hate taking pictures but I don't care because I heart them so.

For my Mommy!

I'm sad that she is in SF and I couldn't hang out with her today. She is the sweetest thing ever, even though she can be royally annoying sometimes =)

Unrelated news - I went to the gym today and did 2.2 miles in 30 minutes! Woooo I am back on track. I also took the dogs for a walk/jog and burned a total of 503 calories at the gym and with the dogs. I weighed in at 143 - 9 to 11 pounds heavier than I was at the marathon on 3/2/08.

Some pictures that made me smile so I had to share.

"Only in America"

Do you think he's really going pee?

"Fat Dog" - poor thing.

Getting it together

Thanks for the responses to my posts, and the really nice emails I've gotten from some of you. I had no idea there were so many lurkers!

For that reason, this blog will be kept public and I have created another blog which will be private.

So I titled this post "Getting it together" because oh man, I need to. I feel so sludgy. I've been drinking a lot and eating like a hogmolio, and it's so gross.

I'm going to be looking for a race to do either in June or July (maybe even August) so I can get back into the swing of exercising again. If anyone is interested, let me know. I'm thinking maybe the Disneyland Half Marathon in August but I imagine that that will be one hard muther in the heat.

For the first time in a while, I'm going to go to the gym today. I'll weigh myself and keep you all posted. I want to look like this again - sadly, this was back in like October(ish) 2007. Gimme Skinny dammit! Summer is close and mama wants to wear a bikini!

Update to "Updates On Me" post below

I take a lot of it back.

Some new developments with me that I don't want the whole world to really know about so....

I will soon be turning this into a private blog which will require me to send you an invite to read it. If you read my blog, please email me at 10yearstogether@gmail.com so I can add you to my invite list.

Updates on me

My days are usually uneventful, but sometimes that's a good thing because it means things are going ok.

A few notables:
- Work is great. I was out for about 2 weeks "working from home" and the boss hasn't sweat it one bit. I have a great staff that kept themselves busy while I was away, and a superstar sub who came out of retirement temporarily in my absence to keep things running smooth. I also brought in two clients this week so I am very happy!
- The family is doing ok after losing Grandpa and after getting the devastating news that my uncle has terminal cancer and that it is advancing faster than was expected. I sometimes feel guilty that my own husband, parents and brother are healthy, but I'm grateful that at least for now, we're ok, despite everything else.
- Homelife is peaceful and Mr.10yt has been extra supportive and loving lately. Sophie and Caleb, as always, are my little joys.
- Friends are great and there are some fun things lined up for the next few weeks that I'm looking forward to.

After a whirlwind few months with family matters and other personal things, it's nice to be back in a calm and happy place. Thanks to my friends for helping me along and for being there for me.

Please recommend a book/books

I am a sucker for trash tv and chic lit. Unfortunately, both can get pretty boring. My only thing is that I am not a fan of sci-fi and/or fantasy.

Please feel free to rec some of the best books you've read lately.

PS - I recently assembled some new bookshelves for myself, so my books aren't laying around on the floor anymore. =)

Early Birthday Present =)

I'm so excited! I got myself an early birthday present - a new camera! Just in time to get familiar with it before our vacation to Alaska at the end of May. I want to take some great photos while we're there.

It's the Nikon D40, thank you especially to Wemo and Kim for their input. I got a great package deal that included:

-18-55 lense (lens?) - I still don't know which lens I will use more but I'll figure it out hopefully
-4gb card
- camera bag
- extra battery pack
- extra 55-200 lense (lens?)
- instructional dvds

Weeee!

Girls Weekend in San Diego!

Getting away with the girls is always nice. Wemo, Claire and KP have all done a great job of blogging the weekend events, so I'll try to make my commentary brief.

Hotel Solamar in the Gaslamp - thanks MBOC for suggesting the hotel! It was so cute and in a great location. Thanks wemo, claire and KP for supplying the pictures - I stole them all. hee hee.

I'll start by saying I was sick as a dog all weekend, and even though I tried my best to hang, I was not the warrior that I usually am. :-/ Unfortunately I think I got my roomies sick too. Sorry guys.

From this....

To this....

Room 422!

Room 420!

LA Contingent & MBOC!

Friday night we went to Club Envy at the Ivy hotel - the theme was "Hookers". Eek. Someone didn't wear panties - guess who? (Hint - it wasn't me)

Saturday night group after an Irish dinner (my first time!) and on our way to the Marriott bar (hooray for Jess!) as the first stop.

Food, wemo and mboc - a great combo for me:

Awkward Crow and Awkward turtle - if you don't know, you better ask sombodddy

Kim and I saluting our heritage - Kamusta!

One of my favorite pictures from the trip - Jess and her tall stalker, who had a short friend, who then pulled Yahpee into the pic - I want to frame this:

To make my trip complete - we DID in fact hit up the taco shop - carne asada fries, yummy in my tummy....

All in all, even though I was sick it was a great time by all! Of course I can't discuss some of the things publicly that made it as great a trip it was. But I do know this isn't the last trip we'll be taking as a group!

Fine, back on the wagon, ugh

Enough is enough. I am not even going to lie, since the marathon, I have fallen off. Eating out, drinking, not really exercising at all. Drinking soda, no water, eating french fries and reese's pieces.

I looked at pictures from a little over a year ago, about 35 pounds ago. And nevermind how I looked, at least IMO, it was all about how I FELT about myself. I hated being a glutton, a slob. It made me sad to make up lies about why I couldn't go to certain parties, bars or see old friends - but I did it to avoid people seeing me bc I hated the way I looked and felt.

Anyway, I will get back on the workout wagon tomorrow - 3/12/08. I had 10 days off. I will eat right and start exercising again. Turbo kick box, yoga, lifting weights, a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Seeing so many friends blog about how they are starting to work out has been inspiring to me so here goes.

Goodbye 10yearstogether circa January 2007 my current weight + 35 pounds:

My last marathon post, I promise

My mom and friends keep asking me what the marathon was like. I think I've been in partial denial mode so it's taken me a while to write about what it was truly like for me. I'll try to do that now.

The morning of the race, I was high on anxiety. I think if I were running the race for fun, it would have been different. Instead, I had in my head that I wanted a kickass finishing time, somewhere around 5 hours, give or take 15 minutes. Looking back, I really shouldn't have focused on this and instead should have just enjoyed the experience and had a goal to finish - much like Aline and Jessica. They seemed so low stress to me. I figured my body had been resting for almost a month. I was doing stretching and lifting weights, yoga, and my speed drills, etc. I was eating right.

Once we got through the long shuttle bus wait and finally arrived at the start location, I swear I was internally shaking. So nervous! There were tons of people. I was so happy that I had my girls Kim, Cat, Jessica, Aline and Andrea there. I get super needy in desperate situations.

We get to the starting crowds and all of us are getting emotional, wishing each other luck, hugging, telling each other I love you, all that mushy stuff. I guess nerves will do that even to cold hearted people like me. I felt so grateful to be there with them.

I knew in my head what I needed to do to finish this race strong:

- miles 1-10, run with my head - be careful not to let the adrenaline push me to go faster than my normal pace is, so as to avoid hitting the wall or burning out later on in the race when I would really need my conserved energy to carry me to the end.

- miles 10-20, run with my body. I knew from experience that this is the hardest leg of a long run. You aren't thinking of anything but the pain.

- miles 20-26.2, run with my heart. I knew at this point that it would just be by the grace of God that I'd finish the race, bc I had never gone that far in my life.

So, BOOM the gun goes off and we shuffle towards the start line. Again we're telling each other good luck and see you at the finish line!

Miles 1-15.
Easy peasy. Me and Andrea were cruising. It really helped to see our husbands at mile 10. We felt strong. We were actually on pace to finish a 4:30 marathon time. Holler.

It felt so good to have neighborhood people cheering us on. It was very humbling to see people clapping and screaming, offering us oranges, water, gatorade, pretzels. I was discriminating at this point and didn't want to take food from unauthorized station stops. I saw a sign that said "I'm alive because of YOU" by someone wearing a shirt for Team in Training for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I knew that what I was doing that day was bigger than just a race. Every time I saw a purple jersey for Team in Training, I'd pump my fist and yell "GO TEAM!"

Miles 16-19.
Ouch. Seriously. We knew at this point that it was not going to be easy anymore, and we also knew we wouldn't be having a sub-5 hour marathon time. That was fine with me because I was irritable as a mofo. It was hot and I was chafing for the first time all season. It really sucked and I could feel the friction under my arms and in my pants with every step I took. I looked over at my running partner Andrea and for the first time all season, she didn't look very happy either. Usually she'd be whistling at this point.

We saw 2 of our nesties around mile 18, insomniac and nessdog, YES! That really gave us a boost of energy and I almost cried that they came out to support us and even with fabbo signs! We also saw our husbands and I got so emotional that for the first time all season, my husband was actually displaying how proud he was of me.

Miles 20-25.
I just wanted to die. The length of time and distance between each mile banner seemed like forever. I couldn't remember the last time I felt so miserable. The only thing going through my head was how desperate I felt. Desperate to finish. Frustrated that my body couldn't move much faster than a turtle. Seriously. I started getting internally hostile at this point. Wishing ill on Kim for ever making me sign up for this marathon. Cursing myself for not training harder during the season. Just bummed. Andrea was struggling at this point too and we both just kind of stopped talking.

It seemed like almost 3 miles of this leg was on a bridge over what I think was the LA River. When I looked around everyone looked disgruntled, limping, at the side of the road laid out. I kept trying to play it off like I had to stretch every few minutes so I'd pull over, but really I felt like my body couldn't move forward anymore. There were points where I actually thought I would not finish this race, and it was breaking my heart.

My ankles felt like they were breaking with every step I took. I was pumping my arms 3x faster than my feet were moving. I felt like I weighed 500 pounds.

I kept trying to tell myself "this is NOTHING like the pain of chemotherapy or cancer treatment" and "this pain is nowhere near the pain of dying from cancer" - I can do this. I started thinking of WHY we even bothered to do this marathon - to raise money for Leukemia and blood cancers. I started picturing the children on our team fighting cancer, of Aline's dad, my BFF's dad, my uncle who died at 53, my aunt with brain cancer at 58, my other uncle who now has cancer. I was getting extremely emotional. And as I was thinking of them, my running became my personal tribute to the people that were battling a much harder race than I was. This lifted my spirits a little, and I started whispering to myself "I'm doing this for you" and "please God let me finish for them".

At this point, my warrior cheer of "GO TEAM!" turned into a faint chin nod and a pathetic "go tihh"

I cranked up the volume on the 3 songs I had been listening to since about mile 16 or so: Whitney Houston's One Moment in Time and 2 different versions of My Redeemer Lives. Hey, it works for me.

Mile 25 to the finish line.
I saw the 25 mile banner and I wanted to celebrate already! It was all downhill from here. I looked over at Andrea and she too was still chugging along. The energy around us was insane, people screaming, cheering. Looking around, people were getting their second, third, fourth wind. I was too.

At mile 26 I just started crying and breathing really hard and I crunched it! I wanted to finish strong and not walk to the finish line. I heard "DIAAAAAANE!!!" and looked to my left and saw my OC Nestie girls Kate, Claire, Kim, Ashley, Jen, Mboc, and even hubbos Tim and Jon! They were going crazy and it was infectious! The signs and the screaming, I was just crying at this point but I don't think I had the strength to even release any tears. Or, it could have been dehydration too. Oy. They gave me the energy to run even faster!

Then I go a few more yards what the hell, I see the LA Nesties Wan, Amber, Wemo, Randie and they had these cheesy smiles on their faces and went nuts screaming my name again and shaking their signs. I could have collapsed right there bc I was so exhausted but seeing them drove me even faster!

Here we go, home stretch. I can SEE the finish line and I am just praying that I don't have a freak accident before I reach it. I look over and Andrea looked so determined too. Literally 0.1 miles from the finish, I look over and see my husband and Chris and from there, it was a blur.

I did it. I crossed the finish line. I couldn't believe it. It was a high like you wouldn't believe. My body was tired and drained, but my heart was smiling. This was the most physically enduring thing I had ever done in my life, and I was done. I wanted to lay down, but we had to go through swarms of people just to get to a cleared area. Andrea and I still couldn't really talk and we found our way to massage tables and literally hijacked 2 beds to lie in. I didn't care that the blankets were damp and gross, I just needed to lie down.

I finally made it back to our friends to watch for our other teammates. I saw Kim, smiling and chugging along - weeee! Cat came in a little while later and I was getting excited to see our other 2 girls finish. And there they were! Aline was crying at this point and I was screaming Jessssss and Aliiiiiine!!! Crying and smiling, they were almost done! It felt so good to know that we all finished without injuries!

I am so proud of myself, of my girls. I am so touched that people, like my friend Jamie, came out to support us for something that was, at least for us, a very big deal. I know that what we experienced that day was a trying ordeal, but that we should be grateful that we had the good strength of body and spirit to finish it out. That our hearts carried us to the finish line. That we will never doubt what our bodies can do as long as we set our minds to it.

I don't see another marathon in my future, and I'm okay with that. But I do know that the memories I have from training and from this race will be something that I will never forget. I'm so grateful that I did it with a group of girls that I absolutely adore and love, and that we had the support of our friends and our families all the way to the end.

Congratulations girls, we did it! Goooo team!!

LA Marathon - CHECK!

A little late, but there's no way in hell I wasn't going to post about this.

I DID IT! I cannot believe it but I did it! I finished the Los Angeles Marathon! I finished in 5:22:44!!

I couldn't have asked for a better experience and I wouldn't have done anything different. To my girls who ran it with me, congratulations ladies! I will always always hold these memories in my heart and will be forever grateful to you for inspiring me to go the distance.

Thank you to all the husbands, including Mr10yt who is usually very anti everything. To our families and friends that came out, and to our supportive nestie mofos. It was all I could do to keep from crying my ass off as I crossed the 26 mile banner and see and hear you all shouting me to the finish line.

Hopefully, my little drop in the bucket effort to find a cure for Leukemia and Lymphoma won't be in vain.

GO TEAM!!

20 miles - CHECK!

I won't say much except for that I look forward to the 26.2 mile marathon on March 2, 2008 if only to put these long runs behind me.

I'm worn out, sore, grumpy, and I've been eating like a pig since I finished yesterday.

Notable moment during the run was at about 17.5 mile mark - I WANTED TO DIE. I mean, I'm serious as hell I wanted to die. For some reason we continued on though.

20 miles in 3:48 with an average 11:27minute pace. Not happy about it but glad we're done.
