My son is here! Birth story (long)

My son was born on Thursday, January 19th at 117pm weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces. He's healthy and we are so in love.

On Jan 19th at 8am we went in for an induction at 40w6d. When I arrived, I was almost completely effaced, 4cm dilated, and still -3 station. I totally thought I'd get a bit of pitocin, contractions would start, and less than 24 hours of labor and some pushing, my baby would be here. I was wrong. I knew there would be a chance that a c section would happen, my OB did say that was a downside of induction and I proceeded anyway, and I don't regret that one bit.

At 9am, we finally got settled into a room and they started my admitting paperwork, did my initial exam, and I met my nurses, OB on staff to deliver me, and midwife. They hooked me up to monitor me for a bit. At about 10am, 2 nurses and the midwife came in sternly but kindly telling me to get on my side. I did so immediately and asked what happened and they said this is very normal for baby's HR to decel and that I needed to relax a bit. I was taken aback by that bc I didn't realize baby's HR had gone down. I immediately started crying and they said it is normal and happens all the time, not to worry. DH finally got keyed in that something was going on and came over to me. He told me later he thought I had taken a dump on myself bc of what the nurses were saying since he missed the initial part of the drama. Thanks H.

They decided to hold off on giving me pitocin so they could monitor the baby more. I am not sure but I think they may have given me something in my IV at this point to calm me down since I was crying so hard and was so nervous.

At about 1030 the nurse came and said we would start the pitocin, lowest dose of 2 (out of max 20). At 1115am she came in and increased it to 4. I wasn't feeling or having any contractions from the first dosage. A few minutes later my nurse rushed in along with the midwife and 2 other nurses, saying they needed to turn the pitocin off, baby wasn't tolerating it very well. I look over at the monitor and all I remember was 68. And I know that wasn't my HR I was reading. Lots of things were a blur by this point but I asked if baby was ok and they said yes this happens but baby's HR had deceled a lot and was taking a while to come back up, hence turning off pitocin. I know more people came in at this point and I swear it was like a horrible movie where I look around and there are 10 or so people in my room around my bed.

I remember a dr or a midwife saying that it wouldn't hurt, that they were breaking my water to see if there was any dark liquid in there. I remember getting stuck with needles, one of which was tetrabuline (no clue how it's spelled), they said to calm my uterus. People were telling me to calm down, I was asking for my H and I could see him past the nurses/drs and the look in his eyes kind of terrified me bc he looked scared too and he's never scared. I was crying my fuckingeyes out at this point and my body was trembling like crazy. Nasty horrible things were going through my head about what might possibly be happening to my baby. God, my heart just rips to shreds remembering this scene. No wonder I didn't want to write it all down.
Finally my H was next to me and he was holding my hand saying it would be ok, and the dr was next to my bed and I said "are we going to do a c-section? is my baby going to be ok? Please hurry and do whatever you need to do. What's going on?" And she said that although decels in baby's HR happen and can be common, this was the second time in a short time span that it happened, and it was taking a long time to come back. That they didn't know why it was happening. And that she believes a c section would be the safest thing to do as soon as possible. I don't even remember if I was given a choice to continue with labor to see if we could do a vaginal delivery. Even if I was that option, I know 100% I wouldn't have taken it. I wanted my baby out asap bc I wanted to know he/she was safe.

I have no idea how long that all lasted but the next thing I know, I'm being wheeled away, nurses are handing me things to sign, I hear ppl ordering the anesthesiologist. I asked if I would be awake for the c/s and someone said "I hope so." I remember being heartbroken at the thought of not being awake when my baby entered this world.

We got to the operating room and again it was all a blur. I just wanted my husband there but he couldn't come in until the sheet was up and I was prepped. They gave me a spinal, which didn't hurt really bc I was given a numbing shot beforehand, which did sting by the way. The spinal I could feel every bit of, no pain, just pressure. Not fun. The whole time I'm being prepped I'm watching the screens for my baby's HR - I felt good that I kept seeing it fluctuate from about 118 to 140. I still kept asking the nurse next to me if everything was ok.

Finally my H came in and sat next to me and I swear I felt so much better. I don't know how people do this alone. I was so terrified something would happen to my baby. Not as important to me was that something would happen to me, as I didn't really think my induction would end this way. I have no clue what me and H were talking about, I think he was asking me if I felt anything, and I didn't. Just pressure on my body. It was weird hearing the doctors talking and I swear I heard something about "move that kidney" which kind of grossed me out. They did communicate to me every now and then that they were almost done.

Next thing I knew, I heard the dr say "It's a BOY! You have a BOY!" And I heard my son cry his first cry. So loud, so healthy, the most beautiful thing I think I've ever heard in my life and my tears felt like a damn waterfall. I will never be able to describe how I felt to hear that sound. I looked over at my H and asked him if he was healthy, to go look. And he said "oh my God we have a boy." H went to go to him and he was gone for a bit and the first thing he said when he came back was "he looks like your dad!" Which is so true.
I finally met my son a few minutes later, couldn't believe it. I could hardly see him through my tears and wished so bad I could hold him but I couldn't just yet. H was holding him and I don't remember what happened next but they took him for his exam and were finishing me up.

We finally went to recovery where I stayed for about 2 hours, as I was bleeding more than normal. Apparently I was losing so much blood that I was going to have a transfusion but I asked if we could wait on that unless it was absolutely necessary. I was passing a lot of clots and the bleeding wasn't stopping. I kept vomiting and was lightheaded and majorly sweating. And I never sweat. My H and my son were doing skin to skin in the chair next to my bed in recovery. Poor H, he kept on asking if I was going to be ok and why I was sweating so bad. I had like 4 IVs running through me, which was really weird. Time passed and I guess things settled down bc we eventually made it to our room where we spent the next 2 nights.

Things have been busy at home, trying to get settled in. I love my son more than I thought I even could. Watching my H with him has made me fall in love with him all over again, as cliche as that sounds it really is true.

So, my delivery didn't go as planned, and I'd really like to forget most of the details about it besides the ending, which is all that really matters anyway.

I think they sense that big changes are coming to our household. They've been very clingy with me lately, following me from room to room. They're also really curious every time I go to the nursery, which is often. They'll sniff around and after a minute settle into a comfortable spot and just hang out with me in there.

We've started leaving the nursery door open so that in the mornings they can go lay in the sun. I hope they make the transition ok when the baby arrives. These 2 are my first kids, after all.

My friend Kim gave me a ton of stuff today for the baby! I couldn't believe it! I picked out the gender neutral stuff, and there's still half a bag left of boy's stuff. My cousin gave me girl clothes so either way, I think we're good!

For Christmas, my husband got me an i.phone - I LOVE IT! I really hated my An.droid 2 and had to do a hard wipeout about once a week. LAMES. And it was SLOW. I am so glad to be rid of it. What's bullshit is that I would've had to wait until April 2012 to get a promo price on the iphone from Veri.zon unless I opened a new line. I didn't want to do it, but H just went ahead and did it. He was probably sick of hearing me verbally abuse my piece of shit Moto.rola An.droid 2 phone.

This weekend was my baby shower at the Old Spaghetti Factory in Fullerton, and I just loved it. It was a beautiful day. My mom flew down for it and I really can't say who enjoyed it more.

Kim and Ann Marie did a great job planning it (AMP you were very missed), thank you so much to them for everything, and to Courtney for helping and Aline for an awesome cake and Jenny for my cute cookie favors! And Courtney even took pictures! You can probably tell which ones were from her below. lol.

Some of my aunts and cousins came and most of my friends. God, I really couldn't have asked for a better party to celebrate the upcoming arrival of this baby.

And the Pooh. Oh God thank you that Pooh was all over this shower. I mean, I hoped for it but being as low-may as I am I didn't want to push. Hee hee.

I've got to organize this closet. I will purge it and then possibly put a bookcase in here to store things. Linens, Barbies, holiday stuff, supplies...no clue. But so much of this goes unused for too long to be taking up this much space.

We've been putting off updating our kitchen for years. I knew that if it wasn't done before Baby arrived (hopefully in January), it would be...another couple of years. So I put my foot down and here we are!

Contractors are hired! Appliances are purchased! Counters, backsplash (I think), and faucet are picked! We start demo in about a week to update our kitchen. Not a huge overhaul but I think it will make a big difference, at least I really hope so.

The flourescent lighting panel and the Brady Bunch chandelier thingamajiggy will be tossed, thank.God.

Kenmore Elite and Kenmore appliances. Sears had both brands for 25% on their Labor Day sale, and if you opened a store card you got an additional 10% off! There were also about $80 in Energy Star rebates. We didn't go big on the oven and microwave as far as getting convection features, which H doesn't think he'd use anyway. And the salesperson (Bill McCormick at Laguna Hills Mall Sears who was amazingly kind and patient with me) said most average people will only use convection features on their oven about 5x a year at most anyway. The dishwasher is quieter than some of the other models, which was a selling point. And the refrigerator is my favorite! I can't wait to finally have a functioning ice maker!

The granite we chose is Sage Brush (or Sage Bush). Backsplash tile is white onyx 4x6 subway tile. Haven't nailed down the cabinet color yet but they will be dark wood.

I will keep track of the updates here as we progress. WOOOOOOOOOO!!

1. What would you pick to eat if you only had one meal left?
Deep dish pizza hut supreme pizza, margaritas, potato salad, reuben sandwich, chicken mahkni w/raita and garlic naan, and chicken adobo over rice.

2. What quality is the most important to you in the opposite sex?
Loyalty and faithfulness are a tie for me. I'd give up a lot to have these 2 things.

3. If you could pick your birthday, when would you want it and why?
11/11 or 7/7 would be kind of neat.

4. What is your dream job?
Professional cheerleader, Boston Terrier farm owner.

5. What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends?
Sleep. I love naps but I never have time other than weekends.

SO HARD. Glass Castle, Grapes of Wrath, Absolutely True Story of a Part Time Indian - those are a tie.

Fuckers who follow too close in the car, people who are constantly on their phone while driving. They could really hurt or kill somebody.

I'm team No Cable. But if I did, it would be Say Yes To The Dress.

Thanksgiving bc of the food. And great sales.

10. Do you want a big family?
If we had 1 kid I'd be perfectly content. 2 would be nice. 3 would be overkill for me. So no, I don't want a big one but at this point, I'll take what I can get since it's been really hard to even get 1.

11. What is more important to you, love or money?
I've had love and no money. And I've had money and no love. In the end, love doesn't pay the bills or the bar tab, people. I'd choose money.

13. What is your dream car?
Range Rover. In dark blue or white. Hybrid, of course. ;-)

14. Which is better, cats or dogs? Please explain why.
Doggies. No explanation, I just love mine too much so there's no comparison for me.

15. If you had to live without either a cell phone or internet, which would you choose to give up?

I finally got my Dala Horse!!!

This year has been good to me for the most part. My family is still healthy and we are happy. I've faced some personal challenges but I'm hopeful for 2011. I'm so grateful for what I have, including my dear friends and a good job, and I count my blessings every day.

San Francisco - my 27 hour trip (photo heavy)

I didn't have much time in San Francisco with Tasha and Kori, but the time I did have sure was fun!

11am
Took the train to San Francisco and arrived at about 11am. Caltrain wasn't bad.

Cabbed it to the Hotel Nikko, just about a block off of Union Square. Ideal location and a nice room, albeit a little small.

1120am
Picked up my compadres and off we went to the expo, but not before getting cupcakes from Cako, which was so great and next door to our hotel!

12pm
Walked about a mile and half to the Ferry Building to finally try the acclaimed Hog Island Oyster Company - grilled cheese sandwiches, oysters, clam chowder, and champagne. I mean, come on. This was so fantastic.

1pm
We took the shuttle to our Race Expo, because oh, I forgot, that's why we came to San Francisco - for the San Francisco Half Marathon.

About 3pm:
After spending a few hours there, we headed back to the Union Square area for a little bit of shopping before dinner. San Francisco is really beautiful, the buildings are so gorgeous, and the weather was absolutely perfect for all that walking.

How much did Forever 21 pay to get this address?! 21 Market Street, zomg.

5pm:
We were tired and hungry. I had personally been up since about 530AM so I was pooped. We went to dinner at Johnny Foley's Irish House across the street from our hotel. YUM! The pasta had gorgonzola cheese and pesto, fish & chips, sheperds pie - CRY at how tasty it was.

It's not a big secret that I love bad food. I can't help it. So when Ralph's had Banquet meals on sale for SIXTY-NINE CENTS, I couldn't resist picking up a few, among other things that I love.

(I have no idea who this kid is, btw)

Skinny Cow Ice Cream Sandwiches.

I'm kind of into nail polish right now. A brand I love is Sally Hansen - the Insta-Dri line. One coat and it dries super quick. And it's so cheap at like $4 or $5 a bottle.

What I'm reading - I like it so far!

Foundation. I've been using Revlon Colorstay for a few months and I have to say it's great. But not as great as Makeup Forever HD. Even this cheapskate will admit that you get what you pay for as far as foundation. Revlon is a bargain at $13ish versus Makeup Forever's $45ish pricetag, but I'm ok with it after seeing the difference. Makeup Forever just has much better staying power.

Why, hello there Second Ass

I freaking hate it when I let myself get to a point like the one I'm at right now. I feel gross. Look, I don't need compliments and I swear I'm not fishing for any. I just FEEL OFF. I know I've been eating and drinking without abandon, and I'm paying the price for it.

Well, it has GOT TO STOP. So, I've taken a few steps towards getting to a better place, physically.

So, I'm going to make it a point to start eating *better*. And really cutting down on alcohol consumption.

I will be training for a July 25th half marathon so I can get that stinking medal I want so badly. It's huge. So neat. And I've already done 2 out of the 3 races I need to qualify. SF is the last.

I bought a weight scale!

I also joined OC Kickboxing in Irvine. WEWWWWT! I'm really excited! We use real bags and gloves and everything!

Mother's Day was a regular day for me. My mom is in the bay area. It gave me the chance to meet Ann Marie and cute Jack at the dog park with my two rats!

May is my birthday month. I'm not really one to celebrate too lavishly but I do like to do something nice. My guess is that I'll probably go to dinner with Mr10yt and not go out of town, which is fine by me. I'm thinking I want a spa day. A massage and maybe even a mud bath and body scrub at a spa where they have a sauna and jacuzzi for me to loiter in even after my services are done.

Sounds fantastic, right?

Anyone want to join me? Costco even has gift cards for $80 for $100 worth of services at Burke Williams, in case you're ever interested. I think they have the same deal for Spa Gregories. Although I think their prices are steep, as long as they let me hang out for a while with champagne and a good book, I'm game for a splurge.

Want.

Someone please tell me this isn't what a spa mud bath is really like.

Do you know what that means in Hawaiian? It means Encore! One more time! That's how I feel about vacation - just gimme more of it, dammit.

Anyway, Team 10yt went to Waikiki for a vacay to watch our good friends Anders and Hiji get marriaged. Congratulations to them. They are truly wonderful people. And soon, they will be 3. Wewt!

I didn't want to take too many pictures because frankly, I didn't freaking feel like it. I wanted to read, relax, get buzzed, and enjoy my mini vacation in my native Hawaii. Yes folks, 10yt was born there - Daddy10yt was in the military and my newborn life was spent on a tropical island. Holler.

Free flight thanks to Mr10yt's miles. Niiice. Stayed at the Sheraton Waikiki - highly recommended. It's oceanfront and was a STEAL at $107 a night thanks to Priceline. So MM, right? Clean, friendly staff, minimal room w/all that we needed. SUPER centrally located. Thumbs up.

Found this in my mailbox from my dear friend Wan - she is so full of win. I LOVE Barbie!

My pretty girl Sophie. God I love her. How cute is her triple chin and lack of a neck? She's going super grey. Makes me sad =( She's going to be 6 this year. I wish she could live until she was 60.

Just so Mr. Caleb doesn't feel left out...(this is his FAVE spot in the house. Ugh, I adore this dog so much). Did you know that when we first adopted him our intent was to get him fattened up a bit and then find a new home for him? Yeah right. Not. It took but a blink for us to fall in love with this freakazoid.

BIG MOMENT of the week - meeting my FAVORITE author Meg Cabot at the Mission Viejo Community Center. She freaking ROCKS. She's so funny! And she is 100kx hotter in person than she is in the book photos. Official girl crush. We took a trip to Moorea (an island in French Polynesia, part of the Society Islands) last year. Can't believe I never shared pictures! Here are a few:

Work has been bananas, both before and after my recent vacation. I needed some freaking R and R like you wouldn't believe. I got some! Wewww hewwww!

I took this weekend to decompress. Got a little bit of exercise and reading in. No other obligations. Oh thank you God for weekends like this.

5 mile walk/hike at Crystal Cove in Laguna Beach with Aline, Ili, and Tasha. So gorgeous! And the views weren't bad either. ;-)

Picked up a lot of great new (and used) books to read.

Helped my husband get his new wardrobe ready. Men have it so much easier than women, IMO. He can wear anything. I picked the tie!

Presents! I love presents!

My friend Gold Digger went to Canada to watch the Olympics and got me these!

And my super sweet friend Wan MADE me this - who does that?! Wan does! It's the best laptop sleeve I've ever had in my life to be be honest. I've gotten so many compliments on it. Let me know if you want one, she custom makes them and they are worth every penny. Isn't it pretty?

Work is fine. Surprisingly, my little book of clientele is growing nicely. I continue to see how treating your family, friends, and clients well really comes back to you full circle in the karma department. Did I use correct grammar?

I really am boring. Oh who gives a F, right? I don't write this blog for anyone else but me. I like to keep track of whatever crap I am doing at the moment.

This weekend I:

- got my entire to-do list done

- flaked on my weekend long run. I am going to be a disgrace the Surf City Half Marathon. Whatevs.

- got excited about February being a new month. Time to get it together.

- COOKED!

- did 3 miles with my doggies! They are so fucking fetch I tell you.

- went to dinner with Mr10yt. So glad he's home, even if only for a few days.

I am that stinkin boring.

Sunday night dinner. I have AW'd (non-Nest and blog people, AW = attention whore) my cooking before but I will do it again. Stuffed peppers thanks to Marshy, and Salade Olivieh.

What I did differently. I used 2 small cans of tomato sauce because I had them rather than diced tomatoes. I used the residual bell pepper in the turkey mix rather than tossing it. I also didn't use ketchup on top while baking, I used the residual tomato sauce that I set aside.

Salade Olivieh.

6 small/medium potatoes

5 hard boiled eggs

5 tablespoons light mayo

4 dill pickles, chopped

3/4 cup green olives

juice from pickle jar, juice from olive jar, as desired

3 tablespoons garlic salt (as you like it)

3 tablespoons mustard

1 tablespoon of paprika

12 ounce bag of frozen peas and carrots

Pepper to taste

Directions: boil the potatoes for 20 minutes or until fork pierces it and comes out smoothly. Hard boil eggs. Rinse both with cold water. Peel potatoes and dice into pieces comfortable to you. Chop the eggs, pickles, and olives. Mix them all up with the mayo (I used light mayo). Add olive and pickle juice, garlic salt, paprika, mustard, and pepper as desired.

Mix and serve. Honestly you can add as little or as much of each ingredient as you want.

I loved it and so did Mr1oyt. PLENTY of leftovers too!

My parents didn't cook very much when I was growing up, but there were a few dishes that they made a lot that I really loved! One of those was called adobo. It's a traditional Filipino dish that is really easy to make, with simple ingredients. Mr10yt loves it, and so do I!

If you don't make it in a crockpot, it can take some time to make. I'd say about 1.5 hours from start to finish for everything. But it's worth it.

My recipe isn't totally exact, but no decent Filipino recipe is.

Chicken Adobo Recipe

2 pounds bone-in chicken (you can use pork, beef, boneless chicken, whatever. I find that chicken wings and drummettes are easiest).

2 tablespoons cooking oil (I used EVOO)

2/3 cup apple cider vinegar

3/4 cup soy sauce

4 cups water (give or take a cup depending on how flavorful you want it to be)

7-ish cloves of garlic

7 bay leaves (optional)

1.5 - 2 tablespoons of peppercorns, or just plain pepper (optional)

1 large onion, cut into strips (optional) - I use brown or yellow onion

If you're using drumsticks, thighs, or breasts, I'd recommend boiling the chicken for about 5 to 7 minutes in water just to get it cooked a bit. It lessens the time for cooking.

Saute garlic cloves.

Toss in the boiled chicken.

Pan fry for about 5 to 7 minutes

Put in the soy sauce, vinegar, water, peppercorns. Stir and bring to a boil. Stir.

Put the bay leaves in and onions on top.

Reduce heat to very low. Cover with lid but leave a crack for the steam to escape.

Simmer for about 30 to 45 minutes, or until the meat is falling off the bone.

Stir every 10 or so minutes. Taste as you go. If the sauce is too potent, add water to dilute. Too vinegary? Add more soy and/or water. Too soy saucy? Add more vinegar and/or water.

Makes about 4 large servings, 5 regular sized servings, or 6 diet-ish servings. =P

Best with steamed white rice! I put a lot of soup on my rice. Veggies on the side. Easy-ish meal with minimal ingredients. Plenty of leftovers for lunch!

I kind of felt like I was back home again.

Before the simmering starts, it looks a bit like this

Brussel sprouts and butternut squash. Pan fried/saute with some olive oil and garlic salt.

If you have a rice cooker, an easy way to make hardboiled eggs is to stick them into the pot once the rice is cooked and close the lid for another 10 minutes.

Lately I have been majorly decluttering and getting rid of excess stuff around the house. Aside from the things we donate, I still had a few things that I spent a pretty penny on that didn't get much use. Well, thanks to Craigslist and ebay, my piggy bank is oinking like a maniac.

Things I've gotten rid of:

Kitchenaid mixer and pasta roller attachments. Omg used like 3 times or less, pasta rollers once.

Boxing set

Wii and Wii Fit, used like 5 times:

Nikon zoom lens - yeah, never used. I had to dig around to find it. It was in a drawer with clothes that I barely use.

LESSON LEARNED: Think before buying. I guess I've made some stupid impulse purchases over the past year or so. It's really sad that I had these things laying around my house and garage that went totally neglected.

I still have oodles of crap. Stamping and scrapbooking supplies (not just supplies, I could seriously host a workshop for at least 10 people with the amount of stuff I have for this), knitting and crochet materials. Not sure what else, as I've done a good job of donating, tossing and selling stuff off.

Skin, Farming, and Thai Coconut Curry Shrimp

Anyway, my latest obsessions:

Clarisonic! Wahooo! I've been using it for about 5 days. I am just now getting over the "purging" stage where my skin turns nasty before supposedly getting fab. We'll see. I'll update as I see progress.

Farming! I currently love Farmville! I just bought a cottage last night, and since I now have a home instead of just a rest tent, I also bought a mailbox. I love this game.

Thai Coconut Curry Shrimp.

Yummay. Jonesy recommended this dish to me, and even got me a bottle of red curry paste that I could not find at the 4 stores I looked in. This was gooooood. I'm so proud of myself!

Recipe here. I doubled the sauce portion. Next time, I think 'll use more basil and onion, and more red curry paste for a bigger kick. Best part - it was LIGHT!

Cooking Fail, Cooking WIN!

Mr10yt and I eat out A LOT. I really wanted to change that for at least the beginning of 2010. Forget that it's insanely pricey to eat out so much, it's just plain stupid considering we go to the same places for 75% of the time (Outback, CPK, BJ's, Hooters). We also drink more than half of the bill.

I am a horrible cook, but sometimes I like trying things.

Chicken marsala was a BIG FAT FAIL. PSA - I Can't Believe It's Not Butter + Soymilk =/= heavy cream. This dish was seriously disgusting.

Tonight, however, I tried my hand at Asian Grilled Pork Chops (only not grilled but pan seared instead) and Asian Coleslaw - WIN!!! Mr10yt even got seconds!

PLENTY of leftovers for my and the Mr's lunch tomorrow, and even more.

Super economical too, surprisingly. Pork chops were on sale, and the ingredients were things I already had for the most part!

I needed new facial lotion so I headed over to CVS. Oil of Olay was on sale for $8.99. Revlon polishes were on sale for $3.99 and you got $3 reward bucks for each polish purchased. So, I bought 3 of them for $12, and got my Oil of Olay for FREE with my reward bucks!

Total cost was about $13 for Olay face lotion and 3 polishes. I love deals.

And so, I know this may sound lame. But I love the way the first 2 photos look. Think they are her real nails? I wonder if I can get the same thick nail look with Lee Press Ons. Hmmm. My own nails seem so flat and lifeless.

I wish Mr10yt and I could be with my mom, dad, and brother tonight! Instead we're enjoying the holiday on our own, first time as a married couple, and I can't say that's a bad thing at all.

God has been good to me and my family this year. We're healthy and happy, which is the best gift I could ever ask for. I have parents and a brother who are my best friends, which is totes weird, and a husband that I grow to love more with each passing day, even weirder. Haha. I have friends that are like family to me, truly, who make me laugh and smile to no end.

I FEEL TRULY BLESSED.

Las Vegas - let's Rock and Roll!

Brief race report: 32 degrees at the start. Absolutely miserably cold, and it never let up. The road was a little wet and bumpy, but overall a flat course with a lot to see. Definitely more crowded than I expected, and I was starting to get hostile about having to weave to get ahead. What can you do? First 6 miles we averaged about a 10 minute per mile pace. Ugh, slow for us. After mile 6, we picked it up, averaging about 8:30 to 9:30 minute miles. My calf started to cry around mile 10 from the cold, and I was bummed but finished strong.

Overall - a great experience at the Inaugural Las Vegas Rock and Roll half marathon.

Dinner with my Fam Bam at Roots in San Francisco

Thanks to a friend of mine for the recommendation to Roots restaurant in San Francisco. It's in the financial district, immediately next door to the entrance to Chinatown's little shopping alley.

Tip - don't attempt to drive there. My mom hurt her back the week of Thanksgiving, so taking Bart and walking wasn't an option. My dad drove. Tip - if you do drive there, don't let your impatient father take the wheel. Thankfully, we made it there safely. This was one of my parents' first times to experience a more formal restaurant, so I'm glad that the setting was warm and inviting. The staff was wonderful. Service was a bit slow but the food was well worth it.

I was surprised at how inexpensive it was!

Crab macaroni and cheese to start. Awesome. My favorite thing.

Caesar salad. It tasted better than it looks.

Garlic fries. Reminded me of the ones they serve at Giants games!

Mr10yt had the cornish game hen with pureed parsnips. Fantastic.

Me, my mom, my dad, and my brother had the steak. Birds of a feather, you know. This was mine:

My dad asked the server to just "shine a flashlight" on his. In other words, rare. Nass-toe-shah. But he loved it.

Creme brulee for dessert was perfect.

The soup chef came out to serve us the gelato that he made from scratch! Weird that he makes the hot and cold stuff. It was much better than ice cream.

From the website: "Our chef creates daily menus based on seasonal, locally grown produce, naturally raised meats and sustainable seafood. Everything we serve is at the peak of freshness and flavor." Since I am trying to be on a cleaner and more wholesome diet, and since my parents should be doing the same, I really appreciated their philosophy.

Giving Thanks

I have so much to be thankful for this year: the good health of my husband, mom, dad, and brother, as well as my own. I'm also grateful for wonderful friends who continue to bless me with their love and companionship, two doggies that make me smile every day, and a fulfilling career. Sometimes it's difficult to remember what I do have when I'm so busy focusing on what I don't have. Shame on me.

The rest of my extended family is doing as well as can be expected, although some of them are facing some physical challenges. The Mister and I decided to make the trek up to San Francisco for Thanksgiving to be with family.

Kim and I met years ago on a random website. I didn't like her when I first met her because she seemed stuck up. Turns out she was just quiet, well, at least on the night that I met her.

We've grown close over the years. Her and Corey are like our family at this point. So when she had the babe, naturally I already love her like she is my niece. She is so.dang.cute.

Aline, Kim, and I were able to get together and catch up, with our husbands as well, to celebrate Kim's birthday that just passed. She looks so fantastic for 39, seriously.

Today's professional luncheon reminded me of this picture. I was one of 5 people in my profession that was invited to listen to a talk on a current estate tax topic that was given by a bank that we routinely do business with. I didn't realize it was going to be such a small group - 23 people. During the talk, I counted. Guess what? I was the only female. I wouldn't say I was uncomfortable, but I was certainly surprised. The only other females were the 2 ladies that checked me in when I arrived.

Sunday was a great domestic day, but you probably don't want to hear about how I vacuumed the couches or hand dusted the floors on all fours.

I'm a horrible cook, but sometimes I like to give it a shot. I attempted Turkey and Dumplings in the slow cooker. This was my recipe: http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=804965 . Not too bad. I should have used less water to make it thicker and added more veggies (next time fresh rather than frozen but I wanted to use it up). The recipe called for frozen biscuits and I managed to find reduced fat ones.

Huntington Beach Halloween

The 10s usually don't celebrate Halloween aside from passing out candy. This year, we were fortunate enough to join some dear friends in Huntington Beach for the occasion. HOLEY MOLEY! I have never been to a neighborhood that threw street parties like this!

How much candy do you think they bought? My 6 bags certainly wouldn't have been enough.

This was a neighborhood. I couldn't believe it.

One house went all out. Haunted house. Thriller playing on an outdoor movie screen with a real theater. Monsters dressed up going around spooking people waiting in line. Graveyard with actors. BOOZE!

Do you ever feel gross and ugly? I've been needing a haircut and some good hair products. Truth? I've been using Pantene, Vo5, Aussie, and other shampoos and conditioners that were either really cheap or free (for real free after coupon). I'm also sick of my lipsticks.

I took the day off from work and decided to take care of myself today. I found a stylist close to home at Carlton Hair and she was SO COOL. I got some hair products, a black cocktail dress, and some makeup. YAY for pampering days!

Come To Jose

I had a Come to Jose moment tonight at the gym. Yes people, I know it's Jesus but I have a hard time using His name like that. Flame away. Just like some of you might think I'm off for saying holey moley and holey crap. I know it's "Holy" but for the same reasons I can't bring myself to spell it out in that context.

Anyway, I had a Personal Trainer (PT) tonight. He asked for my food and exercise logs for the past few weeks. I try to be super honest to myself on these logs just so I can see my food intake reality.

He said that my 2000 calorie meals consisting of chips, salsa, 20oz margaritas, and buffalo wings with ranch sauce will not be conducive to reaching my goals. Well DUH! In a month of exercising and trying to watch my food MOST of the time, I haven't lost a single pound. No significant change in how my clothes fit either. So disappointing. Onward.

So, my November goals are:

- no chips and salsa
- margaritas in moderation, no more than 2 drinks at a time
- no buffalo wings
- bye bye ranch sauce
- less red meat
- less processed and packaged crap, more fresh fruits and vegetables
- white rice, potatoes, and white pasta in serious moderation
- 20% fat, 50% carbs, and 30% protein as a guideline
- aim for 1500 calories a day, more or less depending on activity
- lift weights 2 to 3x a week, cardio 5x a week
- track my food intake every day

- circuit set of side skating with cones, then high step up lunges, then squats with 9 pound kettle ball shoulder lifts; repeat 3 times
- standing position lateral pull downs on machine with heels up, butt tight, and core engaged
- circuit set of 1-bent-legged stand with bicep curls while core engaged, then 1-bent-legged stand with shoulder press; repeat 3x
- circuit set of shoulder rows, then tricep extensions; repeat 2x
- ab work on bosu ball

It's no secret that Mr.10yt is gone for work a lot. That leaves me with no cable, 2 overgrown rats, a lot of gym time, and sometimes, if I'm lucky, good times with friends. Well last week I got lucky!

I imposed on a dinner event with Claire, weezermonkey, Mel, Ashley, StarL, and Nanners. Luckily, Claire offered to drive to Yucaipa, CA for the dinner. We were surprisingly early so we stopped for a few bites and more than a few drinks at Border Grill.

Mango mojito? Don't know. I think this was drink #4 for me in a 1.25 hour span. Yikes.

I'm the loser on the right who wore work clothes. I want Claire's legs and dress.

Then we made it over to Josie's for the rest of the clan! DineLA was extended by a week, lucky us. Luckier me because I had never been to a DineLA dinner before. I was so excited. These are Weezermonkey's pictures but she said I could use them.

How lucky we were to be able to celebrate Mel's birthday eve with her! She looks no older than 19, no? She don't crack, so she says. She's apparently right.

I won't share all the food pictures because I don't want to steal the Monkey's thunder, but I had a cocktail, soup, and steak, along with some other goodies. They were phenomenal.

I love my friends and clients sometimes. Some of them can read me like a book. Honestly? I cried like a moted F-bombing baby when I got these in the mail from a certain someone. That was after my heart started racing. I couldn't say thank you enough. I don't remember the last time I got myself a luxury item, I kind of stopped doing that a few years ago even though I splurge every now and then for certain gadgets.

Truth? I got some Tom Ford Whitney knockoffs from QT Sunglasses for like $11. I wanted the real ones but I was too cheap to buy them. I left them in my car when it was really hot, and the paint/plastic melted a little bit, so I pushed it back into place but a piece peeled off. I wore them anyway, and one day I took them off and they scratched my face right below my eye. Knockoff FAIL.

So imagine how I felt when I got these in the mail. I'm going to wear these indefinitely.

Amber hosted this month's book club "meeting" and chose the book Handmaid's Tale. I enjoyed it. I love that I'm reading books that I would have never chosen for myself.

Best part about book club is that we get a chance to see our friends and enjoy each other's company as well as good food! Wahoo!

Plastic surgery

Earlier, I blogged here about having unrealistic physical goals. My good friend weezermonkey pointed out that most celebs have plastic surgery, and pointed me to www.goodplasticsurgery.com to see how a LOT of celebs have gone under the knife to look oh-so-perfect. I assumed that a lot of magazine photos are photoshopped, but oh brother I never thought some celebs had work done. I was secretly pleased to know that most people aren't perfect, even the ones that I thought were naturally born looking that way.

Field trip to the Santiago Art District

I love supporting small and local businesses. I may be a "chain" girl, but I try to branch out when I can. A night out to visit local artists and to see their work was an attempt at branching out for me. Fun!

My coworker told me about the Santiago Art District where she would be showing her work for the first time. For 2 years now, she has talked about her love of drawing and painting, so I was excited for her. My coworkers decided to make a night out of it. It was fun! There are lofts in this newly-built district, and the downstairs has an open gallery space that artists feature their work in. Celene's friend was kind enough to donate his space to her. Most artists have wine, drinks, and treats out for visits - nice touch. Most of the artwork is available for sale. I was also a happy girl that there was a Kogi bbq truck available.

The Santiago Art District is free to visitors, as is parking. There are also bands. It was a fun and relaxed night, and I was able to enjoy some quality time with my coworkers and Mr.10yt.

Unrealistic goals

Sometimes I really do think that somewhere along the way, I developed a super screwed up body image. Was it growing up in southern California? Playing with Barbies? Working at a certain place? Reading fashion, teen, and pop magazines? I don't know.

My poor trainer. He asked me what my goals were. I told him that if he could make me look like these women (Nicole from Pussycat dolls, Leanne Tweeden, Jessica Biel, and/or Beyonce), I'd be happy. He laughed. He laughed! Ok so maybe I was being unrealistic. But I still think they look phenomenal. Gotta have something to shoot for, I guess.

- To lose 15 pounds. I've hired a personal trainer. Yes, I got that desperate.
- A netbook. Sadly, as much as I love my 2003 Dell, it's in its golden years, and I want it to die with dignity. I don't require much from a computer, a netbook should do just fine.
- To sew a cute pillow. Shut it, yous.
- To set a personal record at Las Vegas Rock and Roll on 12/6/09. I'm shooting for 13.1 miles in under 2 hours. I'm probably nuts.
- A haircut. I could do a mean sweep of your floor with my locks right now.
- Leggings and a tunic to wear with my new boots. Yeehaw.
- Green nail polish.

So addicting. This one is particularly good. I've never worked in BigLaw, but I wonder if parts of this book are true. 100 hour workweeks? The false deadline? The Harvard Law Gunner who fails the bar? $2400 lunches billed to the Fortune 20 client?

So you can see, my brain is a cluster right now. And I'm ok with that. I've set some goals for myself, physically, mentally, and financially. I'm hoping that within the next 3 months, I will make some true progress. Wish me luck.

Even though Mr10yt was gone for 3.5 weeks out of the month, I had to make the most out of it. Thank God for great friends who give me endless laughs and who keep great company....and LEGALLY BLONDE the musical!

Sarah, Aline and Wan and I headed over to Hollywood to watch one of my favorite movies set to a musical. It was my first time to the Pantages and I couldn't have asked for a better show to see for that occasion! We had dinner beforehand at Magnolia, another hit. Wan's recap was fabbo here, so I won't try to replicate it. She even came bearing sweet gifts - yahoooo!

I found a new thing - Redbox dvd rentals. $1 a night. Not the best selection but when you don't have cable and your laptop can't handle online media too well, there isn't much left to choose from.

I rented Catch and Release last night, starring Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant. Pretty depressing. Nontheless, I liked it, guess why?

I'm going to see if I can score Bride Wars and Milk tonight. We'll see. Ok, off to the gym to try to get skinny and then off to the mall to see if I can find something that will make me feel pretty.

Bikram Yoga - holey crap

(for the record, I do know that it's probably "holy crap" but I just can't bring myself to spell that out together).

I also want to blog about my fantastic Friday night but I didn't have a camera and you'll later see why it wouldn't be the same to post about it without pictures. I'm being a mooch and waiting for pictures from my comrades that I was with.

Today I tried Bikram Yoga for the first time. Luckily, I went with Claire and Yahpee. For those of you that don't know what Bikram Yoga is, it's HOT YOGA. Yoga for NINETY minutes in a hot room (105 degrees or more).

I sweat less than I thought I would, actually. Maybe this is because I was taking it easy since it was so hot in there and I was afraid of passing out.

Location - new place in Irvine. Very nice and spa like. They even had free sponge cake for students! The staff was great and the bathrooms were very clean. Towel service and mats if you needed them. $29 for unlimited classes for 2 weeks for you and a friend. Score!

Some observations:
- I felt like it was technically an easier class than the other yoga classes I've had at the gym. No downward dog and not many of the regular sun salutations or plank moves.
- It was damn hot. Humid is more like it.
- I wanted to give up multiple times during the class. Instead I just laid there like a quitter.
- You CAN'T LEAVE THE ROOM for the entire NINETY MINUTES! It was unbearable at certain points but I'm glad I stayed for the full experience.
- I slept for 3.5 hours when I got home and woke up parched and drained.
- Eating at The Counter afterwards with Claire, Yahpee, and Roof was so nice. I felt so healthy that I went bunless!

Will I do it again?
Yes. =)
Tomorrow, in fact. And I'm going to try to go 25 times between now and the end of April. I want to see what the hype is about.

Orange County - duh! Where else can you live that you can say "gee, I think I'll go to Disneyland tonight"?

It's been a great weekend. Mr10yt was out of town again so I had to keep busy. And busy I kept!

Aside from the regular cleaning, taxes, and errands, I got to hang out with my friend A. We've made a pact to hit the gym 2x a weekend, which we did. We also had a pleasant lunch at home and she nested while I painted 1.25 walls in my guestroom. :-/

A invited me to go House of Blues for dinner followed by DISNEYLAND where she gets free admission!!! I've never been to HOB and have also never been to the Happiest Place on Earth when there were no lines for Space Mountain (I'm hoarse now), Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, and Small World. *sigh* Thank you A for taking us there!

All of this, combined with Cheetos and orange soda, makes for an excellent weekend in my book.

I really like my job. For the most part, I really enjoy my coworkers, and that includes the boss. I consider myself fortunate in this way. I love the clients and the relationship I develop with a number of them. It's touching to get invited to personal parties they have and to receive new client referrals from them, it's the highest compliment to our work.

Along with my job comes having to dog and pony every now and then. Downside is that, well, it's a dog and pony show and it can be tiring knowing that everything you say and do, and even how you look, is being scrutinized. Upside are the great free meals I get to have! 4 dog and pony shows in a week, starting tomorrow. Breaks up the monotony of Banquet and Lean Cuisine meals for lunch, that's for sure.

I've had lunch and dinner here, and it's a popular venue for evening receptions in my field. The food has always been extremely tasty.

Been here twice. The staff was very polite and attentive.

Finally - my favorite of the four: Pleasant Peasant - Newport Beach, CA.
It's a country bistro with French flair. I love their gazpacho and the salmon with cream sauce. I think I'll try something different tomorrow and order the French onion soup and Wellington.

I get to feel fancy! Wish me luck that I don't forget my manners during my lunch escapades!

I'm kind of proud of this, so I'll share: 2 of our 4 hosts have asked that I do a speaking segment during the talk that my boss gives to the hosts' important clients (on estate taxes and minimizing exposure and liability, etc.). I've done this before but not in front of crowds this big. My 2 segments will be on Qualified Personal Residence Trusts and Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts. Wooot! Party time on Opposite Day!

My simple life

It's been a simple week for me. Mr10yt was out of town for work again. It gets lonely, but thank goodness I have my two dogs, Sophie and Caleb, to keep me company. The good thing about Mr10yt being out of town is that my best friend lets me dogsit her dogs so that I have extra protection since Soph and Caleb are wimps. Max and Mia are super good guard dogs. They come over when Mr10yt is gone and stay with me until he gets back.

OC Nesties had a gtg on Sunday, January 24th - potluck and books! Friends, eats, and reads are one of my favorite combinations. WeezerMonkey did a great recap here with a lot of photos! Too bad my camera isn't as nice as hers otherwise I would have posted my pics too.
Everyone was such a good houseguest and it was so nice to see everyone again. I love my girls.
Lowlight of the party - some of our nesties were sorely missed. Highlight of the party - no one got shanked.

To keep myself busy when Mr10yt is out of town, I've been...cleaning! I've made it a point to declutter and get organized for 2009. That is my goal this year - to get my house and head in order. I'm on my way!

When the cat is away, the mice do paint

And so it begins. Mr.10yt is out of town again and I found myself home from brunch with nothing to do. I decided to get a can of paint and finally do the walls in the powder room. The faux-textured blue paint in there has been an eyesore to me for almost 3 years. Good riddance!
After 2 hours or so of painting, I'm done!

And after. Still need to finish the little parts on the cabinet and find a picture to put above the throne. Home Depot's Behr paint in Benjamin Moore's color Pismo Dunes. Apparently HD has the formula for this color and it was a perfect match. I don't care what people say, Behr is A-OK with me. I used 1 coat and it covered fine and was easy to apply.

I always tell myself I'll post at least once per month. FAIL! November came and went. And I am so multiple-personalitied that it takes a lot for me to remember what is going on in my life long enough to write about it, but I'll try.

- Election - I have hope. I have some hope that sooner rather than later, the hearts of the American people and the intelligent and seemingly good and honest nature of our President Elect will bring this country to a happy place again. I have to say that the older I get, the more my views change, and I am proud to say that I have friends that are smart and devoted enough to certain issues that have shown me the light where my once narrow-minded political views kept me ignorant. I know that there is still a lot left to be done, but I have faith that in time, what is right will prevail.

- Knitting. Another "hobby" that came and went. Stupid casting off concept ruined it for me. It was that or the ~$150 or so that this short-lived hobby cost me.

- Crocheting. See above.

- Clementine. Poor Clementine. She sits in the garage crying for companionship with a pricetag that mocks me every time I pass her. Whatever.

- Running. I lost steam after the Long Beach race and never rallied my mojo back up. Soon enough. After all, I signed up for a February race. I'll get that surfboard medal if it kills me!

- Exercise. What? Who cares! I have a bad attitude about exercise right now. At least I walk at lunch 3-4x a week. Give me a straw hat and hot pink Keds and I've fast forwarded my life by 30 years. Oh well.

- Budgeting. My latest obsession. Stupid obsession. I've been eating pork rib/corn/mashed potato Banquet meals more than I care to admit, but for $.89, it fits nicely into my budget. What I have realized though is that I spend entirely too much on eating out at places that are not even that great at all. As a penalty, I've budgeted myself to eating out at lunch 1x max per week for the month of December. I am doing great so far. Granted, I'm only 4 days in, but it's the thought that counts. Lesson: alcohol in water bottle smuggled into restaurants and movie theaters Is.Your.Best.Friend.

- Business. I'm a bidness woman! I opened up my shitty little half.com bookstore that has generated $70ish dollars in income! I have also signed up to do a focus group that will give me $150 extra for the holidays. Wahoo.

- Reading. Jen Lancaster. Love. Thousand Splendid Suns. Oh yeah. Marley and Me. TBD but love it so far.

- Twilight. The long awaited movie premiere (sp?) didn't disappoint! I don't care what people say, seeing Rob Pattinson on the big screen is more than I could have asked for in the movie. Love.

- Thanksgiving. I love my family. I was having mixed emotions this year, but I have to remember to be grateful for my blessings right now. My health and the love and health of my family, foremost, the love of my friends, and to be gainfully employed doing a job that I love. I should not ask for more. Yet I do. But I shouldn't. I love my life for what it is. And for what it isn't, I just won't dwell on that because it's just not worth it.

Bad news is - side effects from quitting smoking can be really hard. Like right now. I'm sitting here with my 3rd mojito (big no-no) and I want to ride my friggin bike to the liquor store to buy a pack of smokes. What's stopping me is that, quite frankly, I think I'd eat dirt real bad because it's late and because I'm not fit to drive or ride right now.

Good news is - I have been quit for 1 Week, 2 Days, 12 hours, 46 minutes and 19 seconds (9 days). I have saved $33.35 by not smoking 133 cigarettes. I have saved 11 hours and 5 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 10/5/2008 11:30 AM....(I love this widget I downloaded that calculates all this information for me whenever I type ctrl+F12)

So yes, for the 3rd or 4th time in my life, I am trying to quit smoking. My last attempt lasted about 3 weeks, and the one before that lasted about 6 months(ish). I know now that one smoke leads to more, and that I can't lie to myself that just one smoke will end at that one smoke.

I make myself sick right now. Seriously, I want to go to the store to buy a pack. I'll report bac in the morning and let you know if I made it through the night.

**PS - I didn't even lead into this post, but yes, this is 10yt, a "runner". What a joke. And yes, I've smoked all through my running training. Yeah, I seriously disgust myself right now. Please wish me luck on this, I need it. I know what sets me off from past experience, I just pray that this time I can withstand the temptations that have sent me back to smoking before. Blegh. Bah!!! I hate this. I feel like an addict. But then again, I guess I am, or, I was. Same thing.

...to 12yearstogether because today, September 21, 2008, it has officially been 12 years with Mr10yt. Yay! When you get marriaged does it mean that you start ignoring your old anniversary? Maybe, but this day is special because it's also Mommy and Daddy10yt's 35th Wedding Anniversary today! Wahooo!

Anyhow, it's been a...wild and interesting ride these past 12 years, and I wouldn't have done anything differently because if I had, we might not be where we are today. That makes everything worth it.

A few pictures I'll share of us over the years.

1996: Mark was in the USMC and I was working at Charlotte Russe. Silly kids.

1999: We were big into working out together this year. We each thought we were hotter than the other. Heh.

2001: We had the flu together. Even when I was sick, back then I did my eyebrows and put on makeup to take picture. Moted.

2003: Starting to grow up right around here. Mark was working his first real "career" job and I was about to graduate and get my very own career as well.

2004: Feeling like grown ups now, dressing like it too.

2005: Don't stop believin...

2006: He finally gave in.

2007: Settled. Satisfied. Happy.

2008: Best it's ever been, at least so far!

I bought Yves brand "Meatless Ground" from Trader Joe's to see how it would taste as a ground beef substitute for my spaghetti. Not bad but not totally great. It definitely doesn't have that "beefy meaty" taste I used to love and that I, quite honestly, miss. The good thing is that since it's made from soy, it has 0 cholesterol.

It LOOKS like ground beef at least.

I planned on making it for my dinner tonight and was pretty excited until I came home from the gym only to walk into a house that smelled like bbq chicken wings. It really hurt my feelings because I just love wings. So I was pretty bitter as I cooked my spaghetti.

Oh well. The spaghetti (pic is not mine) was pretty good and I'd make it again for one of those quick go-to meals. The sauce is Ragu because I'm lazy and classy like that. Shut it.

If you aren't a foodie or aren't very picky about food, check it out!

Soooo....I said goodbye to Penny after a spill that scared the beegeezus out of me. She was too fast and I am too clumsy and inexperienced to handle a bike that fancy. I was fortunate enough that the LBS (local bike shop) where I got Penny took her back even though this was outside of their policy. I HIGHLY recommend checking out Two Wheels One Planet in Lake Forest. Jeff was really nice and spent a lot of time fitting me for the right bike.

I now introduce Clementine, in technical terms she's a Trek 7.5 fx WSD. She is halfway between a true hybrid and a roadbike in weight so thankfully a tad slower and heavier but the carbon fork makes for a smooth ride. She has the flat handlebars that give me the security I've been wanting. I love her already!

I also ordered a bike pannier so I can ride to the grocery store every now and then and pick up a few things without having to use my car. Team Green!

So that I don't hit runners and people know when I'm coming from behind, I got a turtle squeaky horn.

And since it will get cold shortly, I got cycling leg warmers.

I'm ready to ride!

Oh PS Mom don't worry, I got a helmet and also my gloves like you said so my hands don't freckle from the sun!

Hi Lovers!

Quick updates on me:

Summer was good and filled with seeing family and friends, catching up, working at my job which I'm really loving since I got there last November and keeping up with my health/fitness.

Mark and I celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary! Whew!

I gave up meat (beef, chicken, pork, turkey, lamb, veal), milk, and cheese (milk and cheese products are harder to cut out but I'm trying). Still eating fish though. I thought I'd see if I felt better physically and to be honest, I watched a PETA video "Meet Your Meat" and read the book Skinny Bitch and I felt compelled to at least try it. To top it off, the doctors have told my dad that if he wants to live past 60 (he's 55), he better watch his blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as his family history for late-onset diabetes and that a good step would be to cut out alcohol and fatty meats. Hmmm...me thinks that if my dad has to watch it then maybe I should too. Is it permanent? I don't know, but it's been a month and I don't miss it too much but the thought of no more prime rib or buffalo wings hurts my heart something awful.

Got a bike, named her Penny (short for Penelope) and boy is my girl FAST! I am joining Orange County Wheelmen, but unfortunately they've told me I need to be able to ride for at least 15 miles at a 12mph speed before I can ride with them. Soon enough!:

I officially start my swimming lessons on September 16th with the YMCA. With the help of Yahpee (Aline), I hope to be able to swim 1/2 a mile in open water by around March 2009. Considering that I can only doggie-paddle about 10 yards at a time with the comfort of the pool edge within my reach, this is a big deal for me. This is me currently:

August 31, 2008 Disney Half Marathon - CHECK! Aline, Kim, Kim's MOH Michelle, Joy, Claire, Andrea and Me did the race together. I had my best time ever! 2:06 and change wahooo! After waking up at an unGodly hour of 3am and being at Claire's house by 340ish so that MVP Tim could take us there, we set off. It was pretty great, except for the muggy heat. The cool ass medal and post-race Soup Plantation sure as hell made up for it though.

A week ago we went to Anchorage for a short vacation. That wouldn't be my first choice of where to go but last year we promised my cousin that we'd go for his promotion ceremony and celebration for the Air Force.

It didn't get dark until about 130am and then the sun rose at 430am - crazy! I got a chance to do a little sightseeing downtown and took a day cruise on Prince William Sound to see the glaciers. It was really pretty, and although I'm glad I visited, I can't say I'd go back. I got bored.

Team Green strikes again!

I have to say that carpooling is phenomenal. On 5/27 gas was 4.19 a gallon, today on 6/2 it's 4.31 a gallon. Thank goodness for Team Green! For those of you that don't know, Sarah (aka mboc) and I have been making a concerted effort to carpool to and from work. It's been great so far and I've cut my commute time in less than half AND am conserving gas. She is surprisingly chipper in the morning too!

Today I got a special surprise and the other half of Team Green granted me HC+L status with this birthday present! Thanks mboc!! I now have a reason to get a pedi. No, I didn't do it, but Yahpee and I went to go cheer on my bestie Jamie! It was hot, so it's a good thing the race started at 630am. Yahpee and I were out the door at 7:07am. zzzzzzz.....After getting in from Anchorage last night after 1am, I was pooped like a muther but SO GLAD I was able to make it, largely due to Yahpee who organized the planning to get us down there.

Go Jamie and congrats on another great season with Team in Training! She has raised thousands of dollars (I believe over $5k) on her OWN for the cause of Leukemia and Lymphoma. So.Proud.of.Her.

I missed blogging and missed reading everyone's blogs even more while I've been away! Thanks for the birthday wishes (5/31 was my 31st birthday - "Golden Birthday" per Cat) too.

In quick summary:
- went to Anchorage for my cousin's promotion celebration to Lt. Colonel in the US Air Force. This is a big deal and I am so proud of him. Got some shopping, photography (hee hee), cruising, and sightseeing done. Found out that telling people you're looking for "eskimos" isn't very politically correct.
- went to San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon today with Aline to watch my bestie Jamie run it and just got back. Good times and yummmmmmer food!
- I'm pooped like a muther.

Memorial Day ended nicely with Kim and Corey hosting dinner for me, the mister, Yahpee & Mr.Yahpee at their house. Kim has become such a good cook, I have to give credit where credit is due. Steaks and veggies, and CAKE! I even got birthday candles! I love my friends, I'm so grateful.

UPDATE ON DISNEY HALF MARATHON ("Halfie")

All that yappin and no action from me for the past few weeks regarding the Disney Half Marathon. But today I'm $107 poorer and one step closer to another road race - I am officially REGISTERED!

Finally a reason to get out of my fitness slump!

Day 14 of GET FIT PLAN - 20 minutes biking and 10 measly minutes of lower body resistance training. 186 calories burned. Weight = +3 pounds since Day 1. Cut me!

Here's to another road race! Kim is registered and Claire and Aline and Joy are in for it as well. Still waiting on word from Andrea/USCgirl and Cat but hopefully they'll bite. Jessica can't do it this time, it won't be the same without her but we'll always have our past races to remember.

Downside - I gained 2 pounds since starting my GET FIT PLAN 11 days or so ago. Whatever. I go cut.

Upside - GET FIT PLAN DAY 11 - Jogged with the doggies for 40 minutes and burned 266 calories and did 1 hour of yoga with MBOC and burned 240 calories.

Want to join me for a yoga class at 24hour? I forgot how challenging it can be and what a great all body workout it is. I am sore ALL OVER today!

So I have some fun things planned for June! Yay!

June 6th weekend - W Hotel in San Diego with the Mister and some friends! Pool day on June 7th (help me God) and then the Padres v. Mets at night. Maybe we'll go out after the game, which again means having to be body-ready. I hate this pressure.

June 20th weekend - Lake Havasu! Wooooooo!! I've never been to the river. Again, help me God bc this involves swimwear, I would think.

June 28th weekend - Possible Shutterbugs-Love-To-Eat weekend in Long Beach - weeeee!

So, more reason for me to get serious about the GET FIT PLAN.

Day 10 - 401 calories burned, 40 min on treadmil and 5 straight minutes of walking lunges. My ass and thighs are en fuego.

How annoying. I'm on Day 9 of my GET FIT PLAN and I've GAINED a pound. Oh well. For this reason, I think I need something to really motivate me to be disciplined and train right.

So far:
Day 8 - break
Day 9 - 35 min of cardio, 266 calories burned.

Again - SOMETHING IS BETTER THAN NOTHING! I WILL kill the muffin-top!

So I'll sign up for this half marathon (13.1 miles) for August 30, 2008. That gives me 3 full months. Doesn't this picture MAKE you want to do it too?! Join me!
